You know one of those desserts that is plain and simple easy to make! A dessert that only takes a few seconds to think about and then you have a crockpot full of luscious flavors and delights.

Yep, that is exactly what this crockpot cherry dump cake is.

While I don't have any caution tape or warning tape to wrap around the recipe, I will tell you that this Crock-Pot Cherry Dump Cake disappeared when I made it.

I barely had a chance to grab a bit to take a picture for this post. My dear and amazing Husband kept sneaking back to the crockpot.

If you love dump cake recipes check out our entire list of crockpot dump cake recipes that include apple, pumpkin, and chocolate dump cakes! So delicious!

Trust me you will want to buy double the ingredients because you will end up making this cake a 2nd time really soon after you make it the first time. lol!

I was able to grab a bit for a photo and then that plate magically disappeared and would you believe I never even got to try this dessert.

I served it during slow cooker Saturday lunch with John's mom, and I was working on wrapping up the Bourbon Baked Ham I made. When I finally got to a point I was going to sit down and enjoy a plate of this crockpot cherry dump cake, it was all gone...

I guess that means I am going to have to make it again on a day when I am the only one home to enjoy it 🙂

This recipe was first shared on November 20, 2013! Since then I have made a couple of changes though nothing really major. The biggest change is I doubled the amount of cherry pie filling. I wanted there to be a thicker layer of cherries with this cake.

This is a great go-to. I have made this so many times!! I only use one can of Lucky Leaf cherry pie filling, this brand is loaded with cherries. In fact just put all ingredients in the crock...

HI!! So I just tried this recipe and Girl Yasss! I agree with you, the next time I make this, and I will, I will use two cans of cherry filling. I didn't grease my crock and it turned out great. Thanks for the recipe. I look forward to trying more of your creations

I did this with a can of pineapple and a can of peaches cause I didn’t have pie filling. Sprinkled a little sugar on fruit. Cooked for three hours on high and it came out delicious!

I just don't see why anyone would want to make this in a crockpot when they can make it in an oven in 45 minutes. I guess if you're having a big crowd over and your oven is full of other things, then the crockpot might be the solution. To me, too many people are trying to turn easy recipes into big productions by using Crockpots, Instant pots, Air-fryers etc. when it's much easier to use the everyday oven. If it saves a bunch of time, I can see the sense in it, but otherwise, no..... this takes far less timet o make in a oven. I use my crockpot for things like soups and other meals when I have to go out and want it ready when I get home. Otherwise, I just don't see any sense in it and wonder how others feel?

I like using my slow cooker because I live in Florida. Anytime I can make something without using the oven it is great. Keeps from heating up the house more lol

We like to go camping and things don’t cook so good in the little camper ovens, especially baked dishes. So cooking this in a crockpot throughout the afternoon is a great option! Make it in the afternoon and by the evening when we’re ready for something sweet to eat around a campfire it’s a great option!

Like many of the other commenters, mine did not turn out "crumbly"(still mushy). I even cooked it on low for 4 hrs then on high for 2 hrs.

Try room temp butter instead of melted. Mine is sticky too, I just put it in the crock pot. I wish I hadn't melted the butter completely

ive tried this receipt twice and both times my cake mix and butter mixture is just a straight up sticky dough. Its not at all crumbly. I've double check the ingredients multiple times I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Any suggestions?

what if you don't have a crook pot, could you use the oven, at what temperature and for how long?

    Reply

    • Tammilee

You could use the oven. I have not tried making it in the oven so i am not sure of the temp or how long to cook it.

I make my dump cakes in the oven. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 to 50 minutes. I also just sprinkle the dry cake mix on top of 2 cans of cherry pie filling and pour 1/2 cup melted butter over top then bake.

Started making dump cakes over 50 years ago. Used 1 (20 ounce) can cherry pie filling plus 1 (20 ounce) can crushed pineapple (w/juice ), sprinkle the cake mix on evenly, sliced the margarine /butter (egg slicer works great) placed evenly over surface, on festive occasions topped with nuts (pecans, walnuts, macadamia, hazelnut, etc) before baking @350° 45 - 55 minutes, use toothpick test to ensure no doughiness in center.
You can use apple pie filling and cranberries with a spice cake or carrot cake mix. Or try crushed pineapple with manarin oranges with the carrot cake. So many possibilities!

If making this cake in the oven, do NOT mix the ingredients, layer... or you get a sticky mess. I've done this in a slow cooker, again with the dry cake mix (really good with white cake mix - not angel food). Just my experience making this.

I use an oven Dump Cake Recipe. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 9x11 baking dish. Pour 1 can undrained pineapple into greased baking dish, cover with 1 can cherry "more fruit" pie filling, sprinkle dry 2 layer size yellow cake mix over pie filling, Drizzle 1 cup melted butter over the top of the dry cake mix. Sprinkle 7 oz coconut and 1 cup chopped pecans over the top. Bake 45 tp 55 minutes or until top is brown and bubbly.

      Reply

    • Sharon

Yes, when I've had to 'make it quick'... I HAVE put the ingred. into a greased 9"x13" pan & baked it for about 50 min. @ 350• w/no cover on it. It's a bit crisper than cooked in my crockpot, but, I like it even better crisper!!!

I did use 2 cans of cherry pie filling & 1/4 cup more butter...(3/4 cup in al) .....and, all the butter I used, I cut into little slices & put the sliced pieces all over the dry cake mix, instead of mixing the butter w/cake mix.

Brenda, why did you have to "dump" it? I leave mine out all the time. I agree with someone else, it's MUCH better with a can of crushed pineapple, UNdrained. This is my absolute favorite "go to" dessert, been making it for 30+ years.

I got your recipe for this from a Facebook friend and am making it even as I write this. I put it on about 4 hours ago on the low setting on my crock pot. However, the cake mix doesn't seem to be cooking, or maybe it's supposed to be of a different consistency than baked. I also wonder if I should have cooked it on the high setting. Just for future reference, how should the cake look when it's done? Thanks!
